Table. 5.

Adjusted odds ratios between age-related macular degeneration and hyperuricemia in each age and sex group

Sex Age (year) Adjusted odds ratio (95% confidence interval) P
Female
<60 1.01 (0.54-1.88) 0.968
60 to <80 0.91 (0.62-1.35) 0.644
≥80 0.87 (0.32-2.39) 0.790
Male
<60 0.54 (0.36-0.81) 0.003
60 to <80 1.06 (0.74-1.52) 0.739
≥80 0.12 (0.03-0.51) 0.005

Values are based on multiple logistic regression models for complex survey design that include age-related macular degeneration as the dependent variable and hyperuricemia as the independent variable with adjustment for education, household income, alcohol intake, smoking, physical activity, resistance exercise, abdominal obesity, elevated fasting glucose, high triglycerides, low high-density lipoprotein-cholesterol, elevated blood pressure, and estimated glomerular filtration rates.
